Separation Anxiety

This was taken this morning, 9th day of workday in 2015 and D's 9th day of crying drama every morning I leave for work. He's clinging into my uniform and asking me not to wear it and get my everyday clothes instead. Breaks my heart, I want to sit with him and hug him. I want to give in to his request of sleeping again and snuggle each other the whole day. But I need to go back to reality, to work, and to chase my dreams for myself and for our family.

This is not the first time D behaves like this. He do this everytime I am at home or when we go to La Union or in Pampanga or in different environment. In three years I became his security blanket, Oh well actually nursing with me became his security blanket.

But he's a pre-schooler now and we need to help him outgrow his separation anxiety. And I don't want him to be Mama's boy. Daddy R asked me what to do, and as usual I asked Mr. Google and my trusty baby concerns source website Baby Center. They have a list on what to do when separation anxiety strikes. We are still in the process of limiting crying dramas, we are on trial and error mode but we are getting there. So you might pick-up something from these tips that worked for us.

1. Wave bye-bye when you leave. It is a must to us to kiss each other whenever we leave for work. But I usually forget to wave bye-bye or even look back to him. Its heartbreaking for me and sometimes I just tell myself, "I'm doing this for D, so I need to be strong". Yes, may gunun na drama araw-araw. So now I need to make sure I bid bye to D.
"It's a simple tactic but one that many parents ignore. Instead, fearing the wrath of their toddler, they try to sneak out of the house while he's otherwise engaged. Big mistake. This approach may save you the pain of watching your child cry, but it can actually make his separation anxiety more severe. If your child thinks you might disappear at any given moment without notice, he's not going to let you out of his sight. This also goes for nighttime departures. Some parents try to avoid the whole ordeal by putting their child down for the night before the babysitter arrives. That's all well and good — if he doesn't wake up. But suppose he does. You don't want him surprised — and possibly terrified — to wake up and find you gone."

2. Help your child look ahead. Sometimes, no matter how hard we explain to our child that we need to leave for work so we can provide him with food etc... their young minds cannot comprehend yet, but never quit trying. As D grew up, he's getting accustomed with daddy D leaving for Baguio to work, and me at the office. But then there are times that he can't absorb so I usually result to "pasalubongs stories". It works for sometime, but it became magastos and made D wait for the present other than me. So talk directly and honestly to your child, they can understand. Just be patient.

"Although your child's ability to communicate is still hindered by his limited vocabulary, he understands much more than he can say. So prepare him for your departure by talking about the event ahead of time. Make sure your child knows where you are going and when you'll be back. You may also want to give him details, such as who will be watching him and what sort of activities he can look forward to doing. To that end, it's also important to talk about your child's sitter with great enthusiasm. Your child looks to you for reassurance, and if you say things like "I think Bella is so much fun, don't you?" he'll be inclined to agree. To gauge how much of your conversation he's absorbing, follow up with simple questions like "Where are Mommy and Daddy going?" or "Who's going to watch Kenny while Mommy and Daddy go to dinner?"."

3. Look on the sunny side. I also suffer separation anxiety, the emotions of leaving a wailing and crying baby must be also radiating with D so he's so dramatic every time I leave. Telling D the activities that we will do when I got home sometimes works, but I should be careful, D always remembers. lol

"Separation anxiety isn't merely a toddler thing — you may not be thrilled by the prospect of leaving either. But if you let your apprehension show, your child's almost certain to pick up on it. Besides, a dramatic farewell will just validate your child's feelings of insecurity. So try to stay calm and positive — even if he's hysterical. Talk to him evenly and reassure him that you'll be back soon. To keep the situation light, try adopting a silly parting phrase such as "See you later, alligator" or your own made-up alternative. Getting your child in the habit of responding with "After a while, crocodile" will also help serve as a distraction."

4. Head out at the same time. This we do ever since, and I think pretty worked for us because D actually see us leaving, never hiding somewhere. What I learned as I remember from my childhood is to always tell the kids the truth. So if you are leaving, no matter how they cry, tell them anyway, they will eventually understand and cope with it.

"Good-byes are always easier when it's your child who does the exiting. Instead of you leaving him behind, have the babysitter take him for a quick trip to the park or out for a stroll as you head out the door. Make sure your child understands that you're going out as well. Otherwise he'll be doubly upset when he returns to find the house empty."

There are lots of tips and advices that you can get from the internet, chat groups and from your friends but always remember that these tips are hits and miss, trial and error and depends on your family.

Good luck to us.

D is turning 3!

Yes! the chubby cheeked, kagigil and breastmilk monster baby is turning 3 years old in 4 days!

So I will do a little throwback, I found these mini videos from an old phone and I couldn't help but miss and reminisce how this little nugget came into our lives and brings so much joy in our household.

Happiest birthday D!

I'm planning for a "Thomas the Train" party. This will be the simplest, so good luck to me.

D's Midnight Snack

Since D is a breastfeed baby, from Day1 until now that he's 26 month, he still feeds at night. Yes, we co-sleep and one of the benefits of breastfeeding and co-sleeping that I usually boast with my friends is that hindi ako napupuyat gumising sa gabi! I don't need to get up in bed just to make milk, well aside from nights na may sakit si baby D. Nursing D made me relaxed and also comforts him at night. So, sarap ng tulog namin, hehe.

But since his 2nd birthday that I decided to wean him slowly, that I stopped expressing milk during workdays, and following the law of demand and supply, I know after 3 months my milk supply is slowly dwindle, so malapit na maubos.

Thus, for the last two nights ganito and eksena while sarap ng tulog ko....

D: mommy, owenge (mommy orange juice)
Me: deadma (I thought he's just sleep talking again)
D: mommy, owenge (in a louder voice)
Me: sleep muna baby,
D: (cries loud!)
Me: (no choice but to get up and get orange juice)

And he even ask for Yakult. PG lang ang peg ng anak ko?! e 2AM pa lang?

After D finished his juice and yakult, he went to me and said "Vely gud mommy, Lab you" and hugged me tight. My heart melted and I felt a little guilt since i got irritated at first, imagine?! waking up at the wee hours just to get a juice?! But, yes a power hug will make-up for that.

Baby D at 20 months!

Babies really grow-up fast! Four months from now, baby D will be celebrating his 2nd year birthday, yay! will I start planning for his 2nd year birthday? hay... I miss baby D's baby smell, well, I always miss his maasim smell everyday. Work, school and everyday traffic steals my bonding time with my bebeko. Guilty momma in me is missing a lot of his milestones.

Baby D is so malambing, sometimes yayakap siya, minsan naman sasabunutan ako.

Baby D's first time sa bookstore. Nakakaloka he wants to get all the books, at itapon sa floor.

He steals my ponytail and used it as his necklace.

Me: D where's the frog? (we have animals drawing at our walls)
D: went around the room and get coco (our crocodile) haha

At for Nth time, tinapon na naman niya phone ko, so I asked him to face the wall. Kaso nagpose sa wall naman siya.

He wants dede, kaso I said kinuha na ng cat ung dede niya kasi bigboy na siya, so he hugged me to get his dede back.

Someones is enjoying barney for the nth time! at nakataas pa talaga ang paa.

Chocolates?

Like daddy like baby. I love you both!

And ohhh... baby no more. He can now eat on his own. Literally, I wanna cry when I saw him eating alone. He's now getting independent. Good boy, my Big Boy.

And for weeks, I'm looking for his powder. As in muntik na akong bumili ng bago. And when I'm looking for his panjama, tada! tinago pala niya!

Baby D's language development is also growing fast! He can now say a lot of things aside from mommy, daddy, lolo, lola and bola.

- Ti-ta ( Tita A)
- Totoy (turtle)
- Oy (horse)
- Bike
- Dyong (Deion)
- Po-po (Upo)
- Po (Polbo)
- Popo (pororo)
- Baba (Buksan)
- Tatay, Nanay (I dont know if alam na niya ibig sabihin)
- Gah (Lolo E)
- Yna (Lola L)
- Os (Tita A)
- Ga (Mommy G)
- Dah (duck)
- Shus (Shoes)
- Papay (tinapay)
- Eiiw (if ikikiss siya ng daddy niya)
- Jus (juice)
- Gulay
- Fishsh

He can also may pasikat na!
- - - - - - - - - - - -
Me: D anu sabi ng Dog?
D: Dogie? Aw, Aw

Me: Anu sabi ng Cat?
D: Meow

Me: ng Bird?
D: Twit, twit

Me: ng Goat?
D: Meehh

Me: ng Cow?
D: Moooh

Me: ng Chicken?
D: Tikitik (dapat tiktilaok yan)

Me: ng Frog?
D: Kokok
- - - - - - - - - - - -
Me: D, Let's count..
D: tu, tu, re, fah (with matching hand gestures pa yan)

- - - - - - - - - - - -

  • He's also masunurin, you can ask him to turn-off the TV, electricfan and lights.
  • Kapag nag-ring ung CP ko automatic kukunin niya un agad and will say "daddy, daddy"
  • He's still into throwing things! specially cellphones.
  • He knew how to kiss na! pero selected moments lang.
  • He's into watching numbers video and alphabet videos
Un lang, he's weight is stunted. Since 13 months he's 10kgs. na, and his weight ranges from 10-10.5-11kgs. only. Panu he's so malikot and active. And I read somewhere that breasfeed babies are really lean. I wanna ditch the growth charts na nga sana, kaso he's pedia discussed the possibility of Primary Complex, and the idea itself is super scary for me. Hay wag naman sana, kaso he's not gaining weigth nga and he has history of frequent coughs. Praying.. praying...

Dear Baby D,

You will always be my baby forever anak. I love you so much. And mommy will do anything to shield you.

Mommy,

Baby D: 1 year & 6 months

Baby D is growing so fast! his lolo kept on saying "dati nakahiga lang tayo sa bed, ngaun tumatakbo ka na!" haha so true, and when we complain that he's so malikot, he will say "dati nung hindi pa naglalakad gusto mo palakarin, ngaun naman naglalakad na, nagrereklamo ka kasi tumatakbo na".

He's a handful nowadays, in seconds he's climbing the couch, pulling the chairs, and picking and swallowing everything he likes! yay! kapoy! I'm not complaining though, (slight lang) because this stage also the cutest he will be. I want to enjoy every moment, mabilis lang yan, next thing I know, I am no longer his one and only girl. yikes!

Wanna see how cute our little pattoootie?

We spent last weekend in Baguio, and daddy R is the yaya for the whole day. They went to Burnham Park and walked around the city. I wish I was with them, kaso I have work, father and son had a great time though. R just complains that baby D is so heavy (kahit payatot) siksik kasi. lol!

While waiting for the bus to depart, baby D was looking at the bus stewardess (nagandahan ata), so we asked him to say HI! ayan with matching wave wave pa.. daddy R is so proud haha, may future chickboy na siya.

I love this photo that R sent to me. (Sorry for the blurry photo, taken via ipod)
I'l cation this as "mother and son selfie" lol
I just love that R loves to take our photo.

Baby D's latest words:

Aside from BOLA, DADDY, MOMMY, DEDE, LOLA, LOLO... DEDIH (Teddy), BAH (barney) ,

Me: How old are you d?
D: Tyu (one yun actually) with action of 1 finger yan.

Me: D lets count.. one...
D: Tyu
D: reee (three)
D: Fol (four)
Me: Five

While playing basketball...
Us: oh shoot 1, 2 ...
D: Tyiii (three) sabay shoot ng ball sa ring...

Tita A: Anu bibilhin mo D?
D: Pita, pita pita (haha buy daw siya Fita crackers!)

* Koochie = chuckie lol - and the boy can knock off little chuckie in minutes
* Cahhh = CAR
* Cahhh = CAT , I don't know why bitin lol
* Dhog = DOG

Me: panu iiyak si D?
D: huhuhu (haha funny alam na magdrama)
Me: panu tatawa si D?
D: hahaha (asar na tawa talaga)

And he loves swimming at the floor and kissing the floor. NAKAKALOKA. I don't know where he learned that!

He LOVES RUNNING!

Currently, he's into spliting, may bukol nga kasi natumba. lol and again, we are in search kanino niya yun ginagaya!

His daddy and lolo is also worried that he might me "bakla", I don't see anything wrong with that. haha

Evidence No. 1: Mahilig siya tumili.. haha
Evidence No. 2: He loves to wear my shoes..
Evidence No. 3: He loves to wear lola's bag and mine too
Evidence No. 4: Tita A gave him flowers.. he loved it ...
When I asked asan na flower? tinapon na daw lolo niya kasi di un bagay sa kanya. haha

They're funny! allergic agad? I kept on telling them he's like a sponge kasi and still exploring at gaya-gaya pa. Aga naman nila magworry. lol

The only thing that alarms me is that his MEGA separation anxiety. I don't know if still normal or he's still adapting. We'll still research on that.

Osha! I have to continue working with the overflowing papers in my desk. Sana friday na agad bukas.

Laters!

Whats up with Baby D?

I know! work and school plus the traffic knocked me out this past weeks, as in! Bakit ba naman kasi ambon lang ay baha na at traffic na ano? Hay I'm dreaming tuloy na sana ilang tumbling lang ang work ko sa bahay. And buti nalang I learned the art of patience during these times, pero kakaubos oras at energy pa din. Anyway, will share some of the snapshots of the past weeks na MIA ako.

baby D and R eating wafers! I love that even madalas wala si R, they can still spend kulitan time. Salamat sa skype. Will treasure moments like this talaga. Sana when baby D grow older, he will understand why sa picture lang niya palagi makikita si R.

Me: D where's mommy?
D: (will point at me)
Me: D Where's lolo? lola?
D: (will point wherever his lolo and lolo are)
Me: Where's D?
D: (will point at hisself, sa bandang ilong pa lol)
Me: Where's Daddy?
D: (will point at the picture frame at the wall)

Honestly, it breaks my heart. Baby D is growing so fast and R is missing a lot. But I know in God's time, we will be together as a family.

Enough of the drama. Here's some positive vibes.

Baby D's first attempt to take a shot of his bling-bling. (Ang ingay ng toy na yan!)

And who says only moms with baby girl can play dress-up? kami din.

And baby D discovered basketball! ito na ang simula ng career ng anak ko. Un lang, kung dati pagkagising niya ay "mommy" hinahanap niya, ngaun "bola" agad agad. lol

And look at that! Gusto pa niyang magbola e hating gabi na.

And did I ever said na he's growing so fast?

This I find so cute. Ang pagkakaroon ng baby number 2 ang under negotiation pa, buti nalang andyan si teddy na playmate niya. (will blog more about teddy and baby D soon!). Ayan at magkasama pa sila manuod ng ulan while inside the laundry bin. And whenever you ask "D where's teddy? hindi naman niya ituturo, kundi susunduin niya nasaan man naiwan si teddy, with matching sounds pa yan! "gahhhha" translate "I found you teddy!"

And as usual, kapag nainip na si baby D, kasama din niyang aalis si dhheddy (teddy).

Dear baby D,

I love that you are growing as a malambing baby to mommy, kahit na kinakagat mo mga kamay ko whenever I tell you na "enough dede and no more dede". Big boy ka na kasi anak, (actually tamad na lang magpump si mommy, sorry! pero dont worry as long as you want milk from mommy, ok lang kakayanin pa naman! lol). I love the kisses and hugs you give every morning and at night, nakakawala ng pagod. I also love that you are so pasikat na and lolo, lola and tita are so aliw saiyo. I love that you always call daddy whenever you see my phone and tab (akala mo kasi magsskype kayo ni daddy always). You are learning a lot and so fast! I wish I am always there to witness your milestones. But I know you are smart enough to understand that we are doing this for you.

I love you to the moon and back anak. And even big boy ka na, you will always be mommy's little baby.

Love, mommy G.

Baby D's funny antics!

Baby D will turn 17months this 18th, he's growing so fast that I miss the times na nakahiga at kakawag-kawag lang siya sa bed namin, na ang kaya pa lang niya sabihin ay "maymi".

Ngaun? Oh well, define disaster! He's like a sponge na, lahat ginagaya, lahat aagawin, lahat i-eexplore. But I am enjoying this phase, alam ko sobrang mabilis lang dadaan, so I want to document them.

Who doesn't love water? E ang magswimming sa water fountain? Bet na bet ng baby ko yan. Lol kaso takot na takot na mascots?! Panu na ang second bday niya? Balak ko pa naman ihire si mcdo at jobee lol.

He's getting madaldal also. At take note hindi babytalk kapag nagsalita (ewan, baka chamba lang lol)

Chamba 1
When you say "the ryza mae...."
Baby d: shoooowww (with action yan)

Chamba 2
Lola: d ayaw mo kumain, payat ka na ilan taon ka na anliit mo
Baby d: itcha (marunong sumagot lol)

Chamba 3
Lolo: d ang gaan gaan mo na, ayaw mo kasi kumain
Baby d: dibale (haha diet daw kasi siya)

Chamba 4
(Running from lolo's room to our room)
Lolo: saan ka pupunta?
Baby d: uwi (lol)

Chamba 5
Mommy: sino love ni d?
Baby d: mommhe (sorry daddy r!)

If only we can stop time noh? Ung kapag wala tayo sa bahay matutulog lang ang mga babies natin, pagdating natin saka lang sila magigising at maglalaro so we will not mis their everyday activities and milestones. As if pwede.
